SBIR Grants
through the DOE, DOE The U.S. Department of Energy (The DOE) expects that funds for the year 2000 will be approximately $80 million dollars. Phase I awards are up to six months and $100,000 and Phase II awards are up to 2 years and $750,000. Success ratios for DOE applicants have averaged 12% in Phase I and 45% in Phase II. Topics for 2000 include technology to enhance and improve highway safety, training, maintenance, material recycling and traffic condition monitoring. FTA The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) offers SBIR grants to reduce light and commuter rail fatalities, rapid recharge of electric vehicles, transportation impact communication and satellite sensing and geographic information to measure transit's impact on land use. NHTSA The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) offers grants to improve traffic law enforcement and safety testing. Phase I grants can be up to 6 months and $75,000 and Phase II grants can be up to 2 years and $500,000 dollars. U. S.
